What can thermography find on production equipment?

On a production line, heat points to the next failure. Scanning while the line runs shows the electrical parts that are working too hard or have a poor connection.

  • Overheating motor terminals and motor power connections
  • Variable frequency drives running hot
  • Contactors and starters with worn contacts
  • Control cabinets with a loose or overloaded connection
  • Heater and oven circuits with an uneven draw
  • Conveyor and machine disconnects with hot lugs

Why scan while the line runs?

Production equipment under load shows the heat that matters. A stopped machine cools off and hides the problem. We coordinate with your maintenance team to scan during normal production and to open cabinets only when it can be done safely.

How do we avoid disrupting production?

We plan the route with your team ahead of time, scan the equipment in a sequence that keeps the line running and note anything that needs a planned shutdown to repair. A finding on a critical machine can be scheduled for the next maintenance window instead of becoming an emergency.

What is the difference between electrical heat and mechanical heat?

Thermal cameras also pick up friction heat from bearings and belts. We report the electrical findings, and where we see a mechanical clue, we note it so your maintenance team can check it. Our work is on the electrical side.

What do you get?

A report with thermal and visible photos, the equipment tag or location, a priority and a recommended correction. The same scan points can be repeated each year as part of a preventive maintenance program. The overall service is on our Infrared Thermography page.

OUR PROCESS

HOW DOES A JOB WITH PHOENIX CONTRACTING SERVICES WORK?

Every job follows three steps: a site walkthrough, testing and documentation, then findings and next steps.

01

WALKTHROUGH AND SCOPE

We start with a free phone consultation, and you can send a photo of your panel or equipment. If on-site work is needed, we visit, look at the panels and service, and agree on what needs to be tested or repaired before any work starts. On-site work is quoted before it begins.

02

TESTING AND DOCUMENTATION

Load loggers and a thermal camera record what the equipment is doing, and the results are documented for each panel or component we check.

03

FINDINGS AND NEXT STEPS

We go over what we found and your options in plain language. If corrective work is needed, we are licensed to do it.

WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY ABOUT US

5.0 VERIFIED GOOGLE RATING
It actually started in Fall 2020 with my Garage losing power. I bid out the work and hired Phoenix Contracting Services. The following Monday, Jeff and his crew (Mike and Gabriel) came out and finally resolved the issue See more
Jeff’s knowledge, experience and professionalism are exemplary! We contracted him to provide engineering plans to permit our relocation and upgrade of electrical service meter. He worked with my electricians on details See more
We woke to a Friday morning with weird lighting fluctuations. I checked the service panel to find a burning smell and melted bus bar under AC breaker. Since bus bar was melted, I contacted SRP who provided some certified See more

Do you need the line stopped?
No. The equipment has to be running for the scan to show useful heat. Some repairs afterward will need a planned shutdown.
Can you scan motors and drives?
Yes. We scan the power connections and electrical components on motors, starters and drives.
Do you scan bearings and mechanical parts?
Our reports cover electrical findings. If we see a mechanical clue, we point it out for your maintenance team to check.
How do you work with our maintenance team?
We coordinate the route and access with them in advance and review the findings with them after the scan.
How often should production equipment be scanned?
Many plants scan critical equipment annually. We recommend a schedule based on the equipment and its condition.
